"DIVORCE:
In 2019 I didn’t just separate from my label, I separated from my church and my marriage. This was a church that I helped plant and helped build from the ground up and was a major blow in my personal life. As for my marriage, when I was a teenager I had a radical awakening. I gave my life to Christ in a hospital bed, no church, no bible, no pastor. Right away I got up under a spiritual leader who became deeply influential in my life.

He would go on to use that influence to manipulate me into marriage at a very young age. I fought against this for a year, but in my mind as a young believer, disobeying a spiritual advisor felt like disobeying God himself. So I eventually yielded, & my marriage quickly became a source of torment that led to suicidal thoughts and attempts. Since then, this spiritual mentor and advisor have apologized sincerely to me for the role they played in manipulating me as a teenager.

My ex and I agreed to separate earlier this year. Our children are well taken care of and we have a growing co-parenting relationship... For some, this is a sigh of relief, because you have real problems and it helps to identify with another person. For others, If this is your first time being disappointed by me..good. The Christian’s reluctance to be transparent in times of weakness alludes to deeper darkness than any public failure....and that’s our embracing of the public’s “idea” that we ARE perfect.

Perfection is easier to sell, and it’s a perversion that has crept into the church which is good for nothing but incentivizing people to idolize us. In contrast, publicizing our weaknesses gives the public an opportunity to see the power of the cross in its proper place, which is NOT as an accessory to our self-acquired perfection but as the imperative to our imperfection and the sole redeeming source of our brokenness.

When will we accept that no man is without imperfection and that the only difference between Christian leaders who have never had a public failure and those who have, is that some were “lucky” enough to hide theirs.
I’m not one of them. Prayers appreciated."
